Steve Francis returned to the driver's seat last weekend for the first time in a month – a break that included his marriage to Amanda Ferrell on Feb. 27 – and experienced an up-and-down Southeastern doubleheader with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. In the tour's first-ever visit to Ocala (Fla.) Speedway on Friday night (March 19), Francis was not a factor. He started eighth but battled an unruly car – a problem he later identified as stemming from a bent birdcage – throughout the 50-lap distance en route to a disappointing 12th-place finish.
The 'Kentucky Colonel' fared better on Saturday night (March 20) at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., leading laps 1-29 off the pole position before being overtaken by eventual winner Austin Hubbard and slipping to a sixth-place finish. He blamed his slide during the second half of the 50-lap A-Main on his failure to tighten up his car sufficiently.
